Castella

About 400 years ago, when the Portuguese merchant sailors docked on the shores of Japan and set up trading posts, they had no idea their "castella" cakes would be such a fixture in Japanese culinary nomenclature.

That being said, Castella Cakes are insanely nostalgic and make for great gifts. I'll do what I can to bring back a log for the office. But no promises.
