Fat man bites hand that feeds

I was informed by Mr Risotto that Mario Batali has been fired from the Food Network (he provided this title). I have mixed emotions about this. Although I've recently had bad experiences at 3 of his restaurants, I feel he was a great teacher of all things Italian. Also, he, along with Emeril and Bobby, built up the Food Network which changed the way mainstream America looked at food. Maybe, this will help focus Mario at his own restaurants, but I highly doubt it...

With their 5 year downward spiral in quality of programming, I'm surprised the Food Network pulled their Italian Golden-Child. Especially with Mario being the king of 'sell out', he's winning over even more market share exposure.
Or was Mario too "High Class" for Scripps?

Well, from personal experience, I can say Mario's an ass. Him and Chodorow are pretty close in winning 2007 NY Restaurant Biz A-Holes of the year.
So there's no tears shed over his recent firing.

Go F yourself Mario!

Despite coining the title of this post, the demise of Mario on FoodTV says more about the degeneration of the network than anything at all about the big man (he's a chef, FN does not seem to want real chefs anymore but cutesy or matronly home cooks; simple). The network is moving towards a "food porn" for the masses, and while it's not all bad, the only show left I could stand to watch regularly is Good Eats - something that's been around for a long time anyway. Mario on the other hand, his flaws notwithstanding, has notably broadened my exposure and enjoyment of Italian food and wine parings. Except when the pasta is too salty and undercooked (Otto).
