2009 Food Guides

Today is the unveiling of 2009's Michelin and Zagats guide for NYC.

What are these pocket sized books really good for?
You should treat it like the yellow pages.... A general guideline at best.
Don't underestimate your friends' advice. They know you better than any guide book will ever.

I've spoken to numerous chefs, food writers, and journalists about Zagats... and they all say the same thing.
It's completely bias. There's no transparency in the voting...
You either have to stroke Tim or Nina, or you can pay for points. There, I said it. Sad, but it's true.
(Just ask Mr. B about it)

And the Michelin story. What the hell guys!? They totally screwed the pooch on their US program. Mr. Naret really compiled a team of idiot "inspectors" to field the streets of NYC. Is it really surprising Per Se, Le Bernardin, Daniel are all 3 star joints?
Then on the other hand, Peter Lugers, Public, Oceana, Spotted Pig all received 1 star ratings.
Huh?
Who knows the NY restaurant scene better than New Yorkers...? So why have implants from abroad critique as if in Paris?
Ridiculous...

Save your money and just go on Yelp or Chowhound for guidance.
Or better yet, just write to us "dudes". We'll happily give you a piece of our mind and hopefully steer you in the right direction.
